STRAVA WARS – OLD SKüL

IJG TRAILS – Strava Wars Enduro

**Enduro is a form of Mountain bike racing in which there is a greater proportion of downhill sections, which are timed, to uphill and cross country sections. This aims to test rider’s technical bike handling skills as well as providing endurance and climbing. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia

How does it work?

You have five days, 15-20 Apr, (please note the change of date) to ride the Enduro route at ANY time and as MANY times as you like.  Your daily fastest combined times count –  practice makes perfect!

The course will be marked and open from 17:00 on 15 April 2016 and the race will close on 20 April 2016 at 18:00 at the IJG Trials FarmWindhoek race venue, Amphitheatre.

The race route consist of three SPECIAL stages and three LIAISON stages.  The general classification of each race will be calculated by adding all the special stage times together of a daily run.  A run logged on Strava must contain ALL three SPECIAL stages for the day in order to count. LIAISON stages are not timed and you can take as long as you like to get to the next SPECIAL stage.

special stages:  a timed stage with at least 80% downhill gradient

liaison stages :  non-timed sections used to get to the next  special stage

There will be an information board 50 meters before the start of each SPECIAL enduro segment. Segment name, number, distance, average gradient, total descent, and total ascent will be displayed here.

The actual start of the segment will be marked with a “START” board. The finish of the segment will be marked with a “FINISH” board.

The route:

The recommended route with the marked stages can be seen on the route map and will be available shortly.

The three SPECIAL stages will be on Stairways, Oupa and (super)Granny.  The recommended three LIAISON stages will be along Three Sisters Jeep Track and also Switchback Single Track (to get to Oupa and Granny).

Please Note:

There will be no marshals, medics or water points.

The SPECIAL stage route segments will be marked for ‘downhill traffic only’ during the Strava Wars period.  However, please still be alert for users not adhering to the signage.

Although you might be strong with the FORCE, please clad yourself with the necessary padding and protection!

FNB Desert Dash Prep Loop

An additional training option for those of you preparing for the FNB Desert Dash. Two loops will almost be comparable to the Kupferberg run. It is also a created segment on Strava as ‘FNB Desert Dash Prep Loop’ so you can track your efforts.

We used the same loop during the winter months Night Ride so the terrain, which is jeep track, is suitable to ride in the dark.

Our guard Filipus will be stationed at the Kleine Kuppe gate from 16:30 till 19:00. Please let us know if you require security beyond these times – we can then arrange with Filipus for different time schedules.
